I've had a green bubble tip anemone for about a month now. It moved about an inch from where i originally set it and has not moved since, until about a few days ago. It started moving (crawling, not floating) around about 2 days ago and last night wandered in to a dark rock crevice that is inaccessible without taking the rocks out - can barely see a set of its tentacles.

It is not as "bubbly" as when i first got it, but it is still a vivid green with its purple tips. It avidly eats mysis and scallop. I have noticed a new hole develop on its face plate along with a group of smaller tentacles on one side (possibly budding?). my clown has been pretty distraught since the anemone packed its bags (the frog spawn just doesnt cut it).

Can any one possibly explain what is going on? do they like to die in solitude or go through severe primitive brain depression? i dunno if i should do operation recon or watch and wait

tank specs: RSM 130D - stock lights, tunze/intank upgrade, maxi jet upgrade, chiller... has been running for about 3 years, but was relocated about 2.5 months ago. water parameters are decent and stable

Thanks for the help!

My guess is that it is moving because it has yet to find a spot that it truly likes. Mine stayed in one spot for two weeks then another spot and then moved back to the original spot.

test your water parameters.
Normally once they find a place to hangout they wont move.
It's moving because it's trying to find a better place to live. bad water conditions.

sounds to me like it's splitting... they go into a protected/shaded area...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a split - hoping for the best

I'll test my water parameters and see if anything has changed since i last checked. It's just odd that it has hunkered down in this one dark spot for almost two days now and has not moved an inch out of this little cave...

If it doesnt come out by sunday i'll let you know what i find

maybe it's hiding from that Cat in your tank.
Most just split in place.
How long have you had your system up and running?
How often do you conduct water changes?
What do you use to top off your system with?
I still say your parameters are off.
I have a long tentacle that hasn't moved in 6 months, just grows.

Here are a few pictures of the anemone (i used a flash light to point it out with the blue LEDs on) - you can just see a little bit of it coming out of the rocks

It has been there for about 4 days now... hasn't budged really. sometimes the tentacles stick a little further out than other times, but for the most part it hasn't moved. I gave it some brine shrimp which it seemed to pull in.

I didnt have the heart to rip it out today

water parameters - ph 8.2, kH ~200ppm, phos = 0, ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate = 20, Ca = 420

RIVVAAASIDE!!!!

Ryan, if I were you I would just wait it out. The problem is...if you go ripping all your rock apart, you don't really know the amount of toxins (Mainly Nitrate) that you will be suddenly releasing in to your water column. The idea here is that, right now you currently have a potential anemone in distress. If you rip apart all your rock and get a nitrate spike or PH spike. You might just have opened up a can of worms, in while your entire tank could potentially be in jeopardy.

This happens all the time, when people see one small thing wrong with there tank and they begin taking drastic measures to correct the small problem and end up with either a much larger problem, or a complete tank melt down. So, again if I were you I would tread very lightly, before making large drastic moves. If it were me, I would observe him and just let him be, if you start to notice that he is dying, put a large skimmer on your tank and run carbon.

Thanks Mike!

I'll double up on the chemi pure (i only have a half bag of elite in there right now)

I wish i could add a bigger skimmer, but the tunze 9002 is the best i am going to get out of the situation (no room for anything else having a chiller, no sump, and very little space) - at least it is better than the stock rsm skimmer
