Hey all I just want to see if there is enough interest to get a group of is together(preferably a Saturday morning) at one of the LFs(I asked chad and said we could do it at coral gazers)

Anyways I am clue less about how to use a real camera... And would like if some of the experienced camera guys come and give us a Lil how to class and just hang out all together.

Let's start a list I guess...

i'm willing to try to do the background and technical stuff, but there'd be a strong possibility of me losing people due to "WTF IS THIS GUY TALKING ABOUT" factor.. >_>

Then stick to tactical instruction. Adjust this, click that.

Maybe split the group into people that just want nice pics and people that speak photog.

Before the class starts, a tip I received to get familiar with settings was to take a photo in auto. Then replicate those settings in manual mode.

It gives you an idea of how the settings work together to provide light

well, one reason why people have a hard time taking photos is that the camera uses a standard set of algorithms to establish the white balance, and not to be too technical, but basically it takes the channels of colors, and brightness, and finds a midpoint where the values balance out.

with water / lighting, you have values in blue that are throwing off the balance of everything else. Think of it as mixing salt water. if you have 4 cups of water with 1.023 salinity, and one cup with 2.0 salinity (i don't know if that's even possible, but just for illustrative purposes, imagine that it is), if you mix the 5 cups together, you end up with a total solution that is WAY out of whack, even though the bulk of the water was ok..

in the same way, the camera doesn't know what to do with all that blue, so it guestimates to the best of its ability.
same thing with brightness / contrast.

you want to be shooting in manual for reef stuff.. :)

Or do a basics only first time.. Then we can do another meet/workshop to show what we've learned and took in, also compare pix... Then get more into the photog lingo
