Realistically the best advice come from failure. Its hard to say something works for sure, but its much easier to say what didn't work. Noobies are usefull because they make mistakes experianced people dont think to. Even if only by having their own methodology. I think people should report their experiance as experiance, and it irks me when people report their experiance as fact.

I think every person has SOMETHING to bring to the table. Some more than others obviously, and every piece of advice, whether given by a 4-post noob, a sponsor, or a 8-year veteran, should be taken with a grain of salt.
I have had 10+ years in the hobby and still try to always start with...
"this is what has worked for me with my experiences ,trials and errors. But might not have the same end result for you. As every tank is different. I still never give straight up advice just ideas of what has worked for me and by no means does that mean its set in stone.
Now if your looking for advice or asking if a clown-fish can go into a fish bowl with your Betta, common sense and zero experience needed
i think if you have been keeping fish for over a year and have experience with Calcium reactors and other stuff. of that nature your good to give advise.

I agree. I learned most from my own trial and error. At least I knew what REALLY worked, at least for me. Take advice from people who have made the mistakes first hand through experience, not just research, but dont be stubborn and always double/triple check your advice with proven trials. Dont believe everything your hear, just cuz one thing did/didn't work for someone does/doesn't mean it will work for you. Good luck!!
I disagree. Most experienced people made all the common mistakes when they themselves were noobs. Just because they have moved forward, and gained years of experience, doesn't mean they forgot all their noob errors.
Advice is great, from anyone, as long as it is qualified with accurate supporting information/background.
Some people are stupid and insecure so they will try promote themselves with "facts" that are derived from spotty research and rumors, this is dangerous and arrogant. I've read a lot of stupid things online and the scary part to me is that a lot of people think that it must be true because they READ it. Question everything and ask the all important question, Why? If someone is trying to sell you something because it is "better" just have them explain why.
I'd also recommend checking advice like "XYZ brand is the best!" to see if the person has ever used any other brands, there is a LFS nearby that is constantly doing that, they only carry one brand so it is... the best!
