I got some new lights from the homie Paul (dflad) who always hooks it up, I got an IceCap 660 ballast and some T5's Retrofit, so the mission was on to build a canopy (something I actually despise but I thought it through and this was the best choice), so I wanted the slimmest canopy possible, so I went with 7", I went to HD and got a slab of lumber 12'x7"x3/4" and had it cut there for free, I am no carpenter so I tried my best, I know I could have used clamps, small nails and wood glue, but this was just too much, so I went ghetto and used just the wood glue (elmers wood glue BTW, lol) and some wood screws, I knew the wood screws wouldn't look good, but I thought if I screwed a little deeper below the surface of the wood I can then cover it with wood putty then stain it to match my stand which is a white wash.
these are the wood screws I am talking about, they will be covered by putty
I also need to put the hinges on the lid, but you know how it is, I needed to see how my new lights looked asap, lol..
when I built it I forgot about the return and the Over flow so I had to hack up the back brace to make room
So I still have alot of work to do on this canopy, ie; holes for the ventilation fan, I really would like 2 on each side, but it might not work, sanding and staining and painting the inside with 2 part epoxy paint, recommendation from a well experienced reefer (RTG).
I will be finishing all this on the weekend.
I know, I need the back painted, prolly get that done too.
