So i was cleaning my reef two days ago and believe it or not i cut myself just below my nuckle on my clam. Well long story short I woke up with a bad infection. Hope its not too bad :( For those of you that get cuts while working in your tank, make sure you wash and disinfect very well. Well im off to the Hospital in 30 min wish me luck :/

Wow good tip I didn't think it would have been that bad to get a cut and get infected cleaning your tank. Goes to show you that you can never be too careful

yup......as clean as we think are tanks are they are ses pools of infection.

I always try to at least peroxide my hands if they have cuts on them after

fiddling with my tanks......I have got small infections before

good rule of thumb for you all

wash your hands before you put them in your tank with ro water (no soap)

and wash them after with anti-bacterial soap after.

Its hard not to be lazy about it though...when you cant keep your hands out

of the tank.

wow that sucks... i've had palytoxin poisoning myself... started tripping, and my flavor receptors went all crazy... everything i tasted tasted like milk... it sucks... gonna start fragging with gloves, because last time i didn't put my fingers in my mouth, and it still got to me... crazy...

the reef is crazy... there are all kinds of different things that we don't understand, and we might be allergic to something and not even know about it... that's the real scary part...

be careful guys...

Crazy stuff. I've never had any issues with my cuts; I actually think the salt helps them lol. I guess I'm just lucky or keep my hands clean without really paying much attention. I got squirted in the face by some bubble algae the other day, that surprised me. I wonder if I'll have bubbles forming soon from the spores lol.

Did this happen today Blair. You looked fine last night when you stopped by.

I got paly juices in my eye once. that did NOT feel good. My eye was blood red for like two weeks.

I actually have a huge sensitivity to bristleworms now from all the years of running into them in tanks. I have to wear gloves or my fingers get all sore and swollen.

This happened sunday afternoon. I was fine yesterday pual until I woke up at like 5:30 this morning in terrible pain. On a better note the doctor gave me a heavy duty anitiotic to fight the bacteria (He put down that I have cellulitis but is not sure), along with some motrin for pain and benadryl for swelling. Hopefully this works. I really dont wanna go back to the Hospital!

Thank You all for being concerned. The cut is actually pretty small (1/4") and swelling was not TOO CRazy but there was a good amount in the general area along with redness. The thing that got me is the pain. My fingers were a little numb and tingling. From half way down my forearm to my fingers, there was a dull pain and ache.

Too Late lol the crazy part that i didnt realize till someone mentioned on here is that after i cut my hand i did rub it against some palys(accidentally ha). Im not sure if im having palytoxin reaction. I did mention it to the doc and he said what ever is wrong, whether it be toxins or bacteria, the anitbiotic should be strong enough to take care of it. I don't deny that cuz DAM they are strong. There kickin my *** right now. ha

Agreed they are animals and do have a ton of different biological warfare items at there disposal. Pretty intense, I was fragging some palys and I touched my eye and had "pink eye" in both eyes, they burned ridiculously and I went partially blind for about 6 hours! Everything went black scariest thing EVER!
