So years ago when my tank was freshwater, I had a few greet spotted puffers and loved them. I know you can convert them to saltwater and would love one in my tank just for memories sake. But are they reef safe? I mainly keep sps and some acans

best bet is getting one that already is in a reef, which will be hard but worth the search.. thats how I got my puff daddy.

Hope you find one, it will definitely keep your hermits and snails in line. lol.

Puffers are great. I've got a saddleback toby I wouldn't trade for anything. You're always taking a risk putting one in a reef tank. They may be a great addition, or they may feel the need to nibble on everything. My toby felt the need to sample my clam's mantle when I first added it to my reef tank. Now it leaves my clam alone and just spends the day grazing my rock, sand, and back glass... Your call.... Are you willing to risk prized colonies or favorite fish? If not, put a puffer in a FO or FOWLR.

My wife has a 5 gallons tank which has one clown trigger and one humu humu, both are less than 1". she felt in love with green spotted puffers and had to have them. We bought two and acclimated them from fresh water to salt water in about 4 hours. I though their *** will be kicked big time. But it was the other way around, the two puffers will take any opportunity to nip at both triggers.

When it comes feeding time, both puffers just can't move faster enough to get food though. So now they are getting skinner and skinner......
