leathers are typically pretty easy to keep. Do You do frequent water changes? what kind of salt do you use? whats your salinity? temp? what kind of filtration do you have? what kind of lighting? how long has the coral been in your tank? how long has your tank been running?

first answer all the above questions and we can help you out.

My leathers go back and forth, one day the polyps are out, the next not, then the next they are. Some are open some are not. Leathers are weird. As long as its not dead I wouldn't worry to much.

But yeah what nick said, or possibly too much flow or low nutrient water?

Also your tank looks pretty fresh and clean... was it recently set up?

I do a 20% water change every month using Scripps so I don't add any bagged salt. My salinity is high but not outside the lines, I don't remeber the exact number off the top of my head. Water temperature stays at 77-78. I have a skimmer rated for 300 gallons, the Marine Depot brand, my tank is 250. I'm using LED's, equivalent to 250 watts. The tank has only been running for two months, however all other corals are doing great. I have since moved the leather closer to the light and although it's not flurishing, it's not withered all the time now.

Tank is cloudy due to Herbtana medication for ich on my Emperor Angel. And yes, I've had that Petsmart pirate ship since 2008. It has GSP's growing along the mast. When it was in my nano, it was completely covered in Xenia & Zoas... I'll dig up some old pics and post them later.

Thanks guys!

there's no way knowing what exactly is going on in your coral... but to be honest, i wouldn't worry much about it... just move it in your tank... they need high flow to be happy... and filthy water...

good luck...
