so i want to grow and host more copepods in my tank

i have a 24 gallon nano cube

so after thinking of many ideas of how to do this in a refugium type of way i came up with this idea and want to know what you guys think?

getting a media reactor and filling it with live rock rubble so theres plenty of places for pods to cultivate and hide and they would slowly be leached into the tank with a shake of the reactor or just by slipping off the rocks

do you guys think this would work to grow copepods well?? after making i would buy some live copepods and stock my tank and reactor with them till they can cultivate enough themselves in the reactor what do u think?

I think it's a kool idea, just make sure you keep the flow 2 an absolute minimum initially. I might try it if it works for you. Depending on where u keep the reactor u might be able to put cheato in it as well.

Supposed to have a way bigger and established tank to keep mandarins. To be honest, your experiment is almost guaranteed to fail.

The reactor will keep pods alive, but your tank is still pretty small. Try finding one that eats frozen

Couldn't disagree more. The size of the tank doesn't matter. I knew someone that had a 29g tank with a mandarin that was fat. He had a ton of pods in that tank. Established is more important then actual size of the tank**

Yeah I think mandarins can be kept in a nano if it's established but it does require a lot more work. The reactor is actually a good idea but would u have a pump feeding it some kind of flow?

It could work. Or get some Codium type macro and put it straight in the tank. To realistically succeed, train it to frozen. It's not that hard so long as you're dedicated. I have awesome luck with PE Mysis. The size of the tank doesn't matter if you train them and they will live a lot longer. I've got a fat one in my 29 cube and a pair in my 15 gallon. Taking the time to train them right off the bat means you don't have to worry about having enough pods :)

thanks for all the responses guys i plan on getting a pump with just enough pressure to barely get water flowing out of the reactor!

and yes i definitely agree with having an established tank mine has been running for around 2 years and the rock inside has been in my tanks for about 4 to 5

word of caution. If you lose power, you could potentially lose all the pods in the reactor due to lack of oxygen. Not only would you lose the food source, but you'd also potentially cause a cycle.

but id have to lose power for a severely extended period of time correct?? to the point where i would lose oxygen in the tank as well correct?

Well, there is less oxygen in the reactor. I mention this because I left my gfo reactor off for a day or two and when i opened it to change it out, it had a really potent smell... My guess is due to the die off.

But yeah, I imagine it'd have to be off for a while.

Even if power was lost just throw in an air stone with a battery pump in the meantime like you would your tank... or net out the pods and put in new water from the tank and dump the stagnant water
