So I am just throwing it out there, I have had a couple of requests from other reefers to help them with their camera's and photography on other forums.

So how many of you would be interested in a weekly photography class, maybe on a Monday or Tuesday with us meeting at an IHOP or suitable location at a certain time in the evening. I would like to incorporate meeting at a members home and taking reef tank pics as well.

Lessons will run an hour to an hour and a half and will cover all aspects of photography, not only macro or reef tanks but of course these will be included.
A crit session will be included on images taken by the 'students' and pointers given if necessary.

These lessons are aimed at anyone who is interested in photography and will work to improve photos across the board, weening the newbs from 'P' or smiley face mode and helping the more advanced guys with any problems they might be facing. Will help online retailers with technical aspects to improve sales over the net.

Will also cover post processing of images in Photoshop.

$10 a person sound fair?, there will be a minimum student requirement per week to cover gas and expenses.

My Background:

I have been a professional photog going on 11 years and have trained numerous photographers in that time. Ultimately I would like to teach full time but my current job takes up all my time. I have specialized in News, Documentary, Portraiture, Sport and Macro work but enjoy all aspects of photography including HDR, travel and landscapes too.

If you are interested please send me an email photobret@hotmail.com or PM me here.

Thanks,

Bret

I think this is a great idea Bret, thanks so much for the offer. I've also helped numerous people in San Diego with their photo basics and have held a workshop or two. I don't think I can get up there with you for these, but will lend a hand on the webside if you need me. I think posting threads for the critique part might be useful. LMK if you need anything :top:

This is a great idea!
I'd love to learn more about photography, taking macro pics and more manual picture taking in general.
Where would the lessons be?
Do you offer person lessons for frags? lol

I need some suggestions from you guys as to a close enough IHOP. I was thinking somewhere in Tustin or Orange as a central point. I am not from LA so excuse my lack of direction but in my head that seems central for most. Time I am thinking 7 or 730 on a Monday evening. LMK and thanks for the positive response so far.

Oh and no you do not need to buy a macro lens, I will give you the basic ideas on how to use one and when you do invest in one you will know what to do to get the best out of it. These lessons will cover all aspects of photography from the basics to more advanced skills.

Thanks again,

Bret

Bret, thanks. But Tustin is a bit far from me. 40 min. away.
Where do you live. This is still only in the planning stage. If you guys have suggestions please let me know. If I can get enough people together in two different areas, I could do lessons on Mondays in one place and Tuesdays at another. I figure I would need at least 5 people at each lesson minimum, thus covering GAS and wear and tear on my Car.

The alternative is private lessons which is also do able. It would cost a bit more but it is a one on one lesson with individual needs covered.

Ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bret

I would love to attend this -- would be extremely helpful! I just got a D70, but don't have a clue how to use it, arg!

However I'm way down in SD county...most anywere would be too far for me to drive... :(
