Hi, I got an anemone thursday night of last week and it seems to not be doing that well. My tank is 75 gallons has been set up for close to a year.

All my parameters are ok as well. 0 ammonia 0 nitrie 0 nitrate ph is 8.2 and phosphates are pretty low.

My lights are ai sol's and I have a maxijet 900, the return pump and a wp25.

any one have any help on what I can do?

What have you been feeding? And maybe it can't find a suitable place in your tank. Maybe try to change your power heads a bit to sort of change the flow a bit. Or maybe he's pooping.
Mine sometimes goes all the way inside till you can't see the tentacles and it looks small but after a while it goes back to normal it's almost 6 7 inches big

well the bubble tip is about 8 inches away. I have only fed it the first day I got it and yesterday. I fed the larger mysis shrimp... I also fed pellets to the fish and im sure he must have grabbed a few. They were the NLS pellets. I did a 10 gallon water change earlier and now he looks slightly better. I'll have to wait till tomorrow morning to see if the water change helped .

Any other suggestions?

I've got a few questions.
1. What kind of sand bed do u have?
2. How long has it been gaping like that?
3. What's the temp in your tank and how stable is the temp? What r the swings like in degrees

The sand is just the ones from the fish store, the ones with bacteria.

I really noticed it just yesterday. It's mouth was slightly open 2 days ago but it got a little better before this happened.

The temp is pretty stable. I would say about 78.

I would put carbon 2 take out any chemical warfare possibilities. Nems are weird great pentameters still aren't right sometimes

You might get lucky but every time I've seen a carpet nem with its mouth wide open and gaping like that (insert photo of Tangwich here ;) )... they don't last much longer. Good luck.

At one point I had 43 anemones in a 180 and I never saw chemical warfare with nem's unless there touching each other. Plus anyone that has had success with carpets will say carpets are the strongest and have the worst sting out of any anemone when it healthy.

Heres just the hard truth carpet anemones are a hard species to keep in smaller tanks. They require stable, I mean really stable parameters. This is why if u go to live aquaria they say expert only.

I asked about your sand bed because carpets like a deep sand bed. The sand needs to be a small size grain got fine sugar grain size but something that it can bury its foot deep in to the sand.
Then your lights, need to have something strong enough to get down to the sand bed.
Carpets come from sandy flat bottom areas where there only 10' to 20' from the waters surface.

Now from my experience my carpets would get stressed when my phosphate started to climb when my pH or temp would fluctuate.

Alright guys, So it started looking even worse when I got home yesterday So I decided I have to treat it. I ordered the meds then Realized I could ask my neighbor next door who is a doctor. So before I went over I decided I would grab and asprin for my self and I found a whole bottle of Cipro 500mg in my med cabinet.

I set up a 5 gallon bucket with a 50w thermometer, HOB filter for movement a nice led strong enough for my anemone and Treated the Carpet... As of this morning I did a 60 percent water change and dosed again and it looks way better than yesterday. BTW I am Dosing just 200-250 mg since the water volume is very little. I'll take a pic later tonight to update.

This is your best bet to save it. I treated a mag that looked like your haddoni the same way and it worked great.

So this morning g the mouth of the anemone looks more closed but it is not sticky like it was yesterday... on top of all that my skimmer cup in my display overflowed and now I have ammonia in my tank. I tested after 10 gallons of water change over 2 days. First change and the second was 2 gallons.

So it has been three days with its mouth closed. It is responsive to touch but not quite sticky yet. it looks great and I decided to try and acclimate him back to the display. So far I have been drip acclimating for two hours and am getting ready to do the transfer.

So, just wanted to update everyone... after a week and a half of dosing cipro and doing 50% water changes I moved the haddoni into the display last 4 days ago and it looks to be doing very well. one of my clowns Is living in it now. the other clown moved to the other side of the tank for some reason though.
