I have an old jbj 1/10 arctica chiller on my 30g tank. Unfortunately its acting up on the worst of times! **** thing is leaking stray voltage and killing my livestock. I noticed my blue clam isn't opening up and all my snails were slowly dying. Some of my zoas aren't opening either. My parameters are all normal (within range) that's when I stuck my hand in the sump to maybe shut off my GFO and zap! I unplugged everything and plugged it all back in one by one with my hand in the water. When I plug in the chiller it doesn't zap me. That's until it starts running. As soon as it starts I can feel current build up.

It sucks cus I need it running now more than ever since I'm going on a week's vacation on Monday :/ anyone know a bit about chillers or could come up with a solution? Thanks

dang that sucks mang! whats crazy is that my tanks been having the same symptoms...im testing with API and my params come out ok, but since a lot say theyre "inaccurate" i figured a couple water changes would do the trick. but that hasnt helped at all. i think i need to check on the stray voltage thing too. i just added a BM skimmer...that could be my culprit. how bad is the zap? youre best bet is to just run a fan on a timer for the meantime. it should do enough to keep your temp in check. run it off a timer. check target for their small clip on fans!

no idea on what to do but man that sucks, hope you find a solution. Open it up and see if any wires are loose or touching each other.

I also had a stray voltage problem mine came from salt build up on my electrical plug. Everytime I plugged something in it would zap the tank so you might want to check your outlets.

For those reading this, that is not safe using your body to test for stray voltage.
Yeah you're right it can be pretty dangerous. The only reason I kept testing with my hand is because I had already accidentally felt the current and realized it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Second, whenever handling electricity you never use both hands. I'm no electrician but I know that the main reason for electrocution is a full circuit through a person's heart. You don't want the current to run from your hand, to your heart, and back to your other hand. That's why I was barefoot and kept only one hand in the water and the other behind me. If current were to flow through me, it would not create a complete circuit. Yeah I could get zapped pretty bad but not die.
