My golden nugget/gold stripe maroon pair has been laying eggs for the past few months. However, for some reason the clownfish eggs always disappear completely by the third day. I have tried moving the rocks, changing the current, placing clay pots, pvc fitting.... All with the same result.... Gone by the third day! Does anyone have the same experience? Poor egg quality? Parents eating eggs? Pls help!!!

The last two times, they laid eggs in the clay pot and were guarding the opening pretty tight! I don't think any intruder could get in without being attacked by the pair!?

Yup, either parents are babyvores or other fish are carnivores. Last pair of breeding clowns I had would fight off one fish from one side while another fish would swoop some lunch from the other.

Thanks... In such case, should I take out the clay pot and place them in separate tank and hatch them myself?

sometimes they will eat the eggs if they think they are not viable...maybe look at their diet.

Mine always make it to the hatching stage then gone, I'm assuming their hatching and getting eaten. I'd try taking out and breeding but just seems like too much work getting them past the fry stage.

Thanks all! Does anyone know if the eggs will survive if I take them out as soon as they are laid?

Honestly not trying to sound rude but if you don't know the answer to this question they will definitely not survive. It is not a simple task to raise clowns. I remember reading a lot of good articles quite a few yrs ago when I thought about breeding clowns. There is a lot involved like matching water temp, ph, salinity to the t, flow and placement of it, then feedings after. Google is your friend when it comes to this venture. Wish you the best of luck with your beautiful clowns. :)

Sure! But I did do some research and tried various ways to save the eggs, short of taking the eggs out as soon as they are laid... Just getting a little desperate...
I guess I will try to incubate the next batch of eggs in separate breeding tank, as soon as they are laid. Of course will try to keep all parameter as close as possible. At least I will know if the eggs were eaten! Thanks all

Try feeding your clownfish more raw fresh seafood while breeding and tending to the eggs. If your'e not feeding at least 4 times a day it might not be enough.
