an mp40 for a 29" tank? I think that's gonna be too strong imo.

for my 24x24x12 frag tank, i use this http://www.amazon.com/Jebao-WP-25P-...TF8&qid=1445505046&sr=8-3&keywords=jebao+wp25

I set it to setting 4 out of 10 (on both pumps) and it's quite sufficient (and i have 85% sps in there). If you're concerned w/ quality... I've had mine for maybe a year and a half now w/o issue. Further, it's so cheap, you can just buy two sets and keep one as a backup if necessary. I think there is a newer version from Jebao as well, but I don't know anything about it.

Not a Jebao fanboy by any means. Just thought I'd chime in to potentially save you some money.

Jebao is the poor man's ecotech. I personally own two wp60s, one wp40 and a dc6000. Great flow great prices, great options. For your size tank I second the jebao wp25. if you end up not liking it you can always just use it to mix your salt.

If you went with Jebao I'd have to recommend going for the RW series, specifically the RW-4 for your size aquarium. The reason for this is you're able to hook up battery back up to the RW controller. Speaking as an owner of both the WP and RW pumps, the RW series is much more sleek, refined and does not take up as much placement space and shade below it.

How long can the back up battery run the pumps for?

2 mp10's might suit you better.

If you're only going to go with one, I'd go with the gyre 130. I prefer vortech's preset modes and controller, but the gyre can move more water than you'll want it too and is your best shot at having no dead spots with a single pump.

I had problems with Jaebo pumps failing, you get what you pay for, but the magnets rusting in their pumps scared me away from ever using them again.

I went ahead and found their specific specs from their website. I do know the Votch battery back up is 72 hours for one MP10 as I just sold it to a client...

One [Jebao] battery backup will power an RW-4 for up to 48 hours, and RW-8 for up to 24 hours, and RW-15 for up to 18 hours, or an RW-20 for up to 12 hours. They can also be daisy chained for more run time or more pumps. The batteries are continually charged while the power is on, and if the power is out, the battery will automatically switch on and power the pumps until power is restored.
