Hello,
I run an aquarium maintenance and installation business in San diego and I am planning two identical 400 gallon reef tanks to go in a business. They will be in two seperate buildings. The tanks and equipment will be Identical so I am looking for a way to make them distinct from each other. A good theme or something to make someone want to go look at the other when they see one. I will post more info about them as things are finalized, but for now I would love some suggestions.
If you could plan two tanks how would you make them distinct.
First of all, neither tank will be sps dominated. I am old school and that's just not how I roll. I know that lays out some disappointment for some, but when you are getting paid for it to be a success, you do what you know. That being said I am down to try some new things so we'll see where that leads.
Here are some requirements:
1)Both tanks must be equally impressive. I don't want one tank to blow the other away.
2)Both tanks must be on realatively the same livestock budget.
3)Both tanks must appeal to the uninformed reefer or visitor: remember someone who has never seen a reef is equally impressed by pulsing xenia or swaying gsp as acans or purple bonsai...etc.
Thats about it for now.
I have come up with some Ideas but all have their limitations.
First is the most obvious: Biotope. This would be the most educational and highbrow distinction, and in a perfect world what I would love to do.
One tank completely stocked from Australia and one from Indo or Tonga, or carribean. However the limitations are staggering and the Aussie tank would blow away anything else.
Maby one softie dominated and one LPS dominated?
How about one anemone dominated(including rics and shrooms and hundreds of clowns) and one mixed reef?
One full of small schooling fish and one with larger tangs and angels and such?
I can theme the corals and fish so the options seem unlimeted.
How about a purple theme and a blue theme? Seems cheesy, but cheesy sells, this isn't in your living room. I'm looking for mass appeal.
Please help, I Know I can make each tank impressive on there own, but I need help making them stand apart from each other. Any Ideas?
