Hi all

I posted in my build thread but thought I would post here to get a quicker response.

Setting the tank up last night I realized I may have made a stupid mistake with the build. All along in my head I thought the wall i was putting it against went all the way down to the garage and was a supporting wall. Not sure what planet I was on when i thought this through but I no have the tank set up on a non load bearing wall.

Here are pics of where it is place, really worried now. I have taken 50 gallons of water out last night. I am planning to tear down the tank tonight and try and move it somewhere else. One of the pics is from inside the garage looking up at where the tank is sitting.

I have not scared myself and I am not even sure I should even be thinking of putting this upstairs at all?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is this your property or are you renting? If you are renting make sure to check with the landlord/manager about a gallon limit in your unit. Then make sure you don't go over that limit! Simple. If you are the owner then you have 2 choices: 1)Hire a structural engineer to evaluate the situation(can be pricey). Or 2)Fill it up and find out if it will hold!

I am renting, when I asked the landlord originally for my 50 cube the answer was 'having an aquarium was fine' no discussion of galon limit.

Just to cover yourself for liability purposes I would get an idea of a gallon limit. Your landlord may think an "aquarium" is a betta bowl while WE think of an aquarium as nothing less than 100g! Lol

150 Display with 40G sump so I would guess around 150 all in.
A 150g on the second floor is a bit risky in my opinion, you talking prob around 1800-2000lbs in a small footprint area. I had a 60g cube in the second floor and I was a bit worried about it. Maybe move it to a different location and find out which way the floor joist are going so you can set it up to where you are sitting on at least 3 of them if you really want to set it up.

Juan is right on. I also have 150g tank and it's on top of my garage but it's under a nice beam. Just make sure your joist are perpendicular to your tank and it's on a bearing wall and you should be ok. BTW, I've try to replied to your pm but your box is full. Pm me your number and I'll text you some pics of my set up.
