About 500 dollars. The 2.8L is the top of the line lens.

Other then 400 bucks what is the advantage to the l model as opposed to the non l model

The L series lens will have higher quality glass which will give you a sharper photo, especially toward the edges of the image. One really nice thing about the L series lens is it comes with rubber seals. Having a lens that is somewhat protected from the saltwater and humidity is a very nice feature when taking pictures of our tanks. The L should also have a better focusing motor which will allow the camera to focus faster. Overall it is a much better lens and worth the investment.
