Hi guys, I bought a couple fishes from a reefdiscussion member a couple weeks ago (I wont tell his name but man, I so wish I never answered his post), dumb me I did not quarantine them and sure thing, ich infestation a couple days later. I moved the fish to a hospital tank and I have been treating with Rid Ich for more than a week now. The saddleback clowns reacted well and I think they will be OK, the yellow tang also shows improvement, however Rid Ich is not working on the blue tang nor on the perculas. I already lost two perculas and the 3rd is not doing too good. Do you know of a stronger treatment? Maybe copper based?

Many thanks.

since it in a separete tank do W/C and use copper base med and add Garlic extreme to the food you feed might also suggest UV in your main display it will not be a miracle solution but it will help in the long run

i like quickcure. it works great on just about any disease you put it up agains. it is a one week treatment. use it as directed, you need to do a daily 25% water change because you can not run filtratrion, so be prepared for that. best of luck.

I don't think it's the person whom you bought the fishes from's fault if the fishes were fine when you pick em up. Tangs are prone to get icks especially the Blue Tangs when they are stress, it could be that he got stress from the transportation and different environment + water parameter and spread it to the other guys. Since you already have them in a hospital tank, Quickcure or Cupramine would be recommended now. Do be really careful with copper based meds though because they are also poisonous to the fishes.
Good luck :)

Since they are in a QT tank start hypo treatment, not as harsh as using copper and has the same results. Either way you want to let your display go fallow for a awhile, I believe that it is at least 4 months but not quite sure. Good luck, ick sucks.

heres what you need to do:

throw rid ich out the window

run cupramine in the QT

check levels of copper with seachem copper test daily as well as ammonia/nitrates

keep fish out of the display for 6 weeks (fallow period)

don't ever buy pesky cleaner shrimp if you like coral

Thanks to all for your feedback. I started Cupramine treatment yesterday but my percula was too beat up and didn't make it through the night. The blue tang seems to be doing OK in the qt tank. He ate plenty today in the morning. I kept the copper concentration around 0.4. The instructions say 0.5 but the guy at the store told me that a gradual increase in a couple days is better to avoid the shock.

+1 on what Dooly said.

The only successful way that I found to make sure the ich is gone is to leave the display tank empty for 4-6 weeks - especially if you've got a bad case - happened to me twice. Use copper on the fish and then reintroduce slowly after the 4-6 weeks. Tangs seem to be pretty susceptible to ich.
