So I have been having some strange issues with my acros and cant seem to figure out what the deal is. I have my display and also a frag tank plumbed into one system so the water is all the same. All my acros in my frag tank look great with no issues. When I feed both tanks a few of my acro in just the display tank get stressed and do that wierd slime/stringy response but the same acros in the frag tank dont. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I'm guess the display acros don't look good? If it's just the sliming thing I've had certain acros do that anytime I fed foods like Rods Reef or Reef Frenzy that are messy. I normally noticed it with colonies, not so much frags.

They may be sliming/eating. You should send in an icp test if unsure
Yeah Def gonna send in an ICP test but not sure it would be a water issue since the acros in the frag tank are looking great. The two systems are connected so its the same water as the display.

Icp will answer for sure. You can also post a video or photo to help narrow down

Will try and get some video and photo tomorrow when I feed. What would the ICP tell me if the frag tank is doing great and the display is not since they are both connected so its the same water.

Possible contaminates. Things don’t affect all corals the same. This is assuming corals in frag tank are different than display (not getting the same response)

Do you have any wrasses to keep pests in check in case there are some in both tanks?
Sixline in frag tank and Moyeri Leoprad Wrasse, Leopard Wrasse and Coris Wrasse, and 2 Fairy Wrasses in display.

Slime can be a feeding response and self defense. If you haven't already turkey baste the heck out of anything not looking normal in the display. Not sure if you run anything like socks that maybe keeping pests contained to the display but in my experience frags tolerate a lot more than colonies. Six lines are known for great pest control so maybe it's something to look further into. I've dealt with both red bugs and flat worms. Red bugs had me thinking something was off with parameters due to lack of damage and just overall MEH of coral. Lack of color and PE. Flatworms suck but were easier to identify with bite marks. I went to take macro shots and realized I had red bugs out the ears.

If its red bugs wouldn't it be in my frag tank also? I dont run any filter socks. When is the best time to look for red bugs if that maybe my issue?

Can you provide ittle bit more about you display and frag tank? How big are the display / frag tanks and etcs? From the informations that you provided us so far it’s a little hard to determine. Picture would help too. The more information the better we can narrow it down.

Display is 187g peninsula and frag tank is 50g lowboy. Both connected to 1 sump so all water is the same in both tanks.

Tried to get a close up of irrated coral but didnt do it to bad this time and also hard to capture. You can kinda see it on the one of the close ups.

That’s Stn or rtn and algae’s growing on dead tissue
The white on that close up isn't STN its a little bit of stringy ness hard to capture with my phone. Maybe im chasing a ghost. The same piece in the frag tank looks epic.

If it’s red bug or AEFW you can take a flashlight and shine it on the acro and see the pests. Sometime they’ll be on the glass too. I had aefw before, but didn’t have success treating it due to fact that I didn’t have a separate tank to quarantine the effected corals. If you do have aefw and have a seperate tank to quarantine it you would have to dip it at least once a week for 8 weeks. You want to break the life cycle of the eggs which is about 30 days. Dip it for 8 weeks would get rid of the cycle of the eggs. I would suggest a sixline or melanurus in the quarantine to keep the population down.

As for red bug, I have no experience with them but heard you can treat it with interceptor. Some your inverts like shrimp and crabs will be effected with the medication.

I will look but im not seeing any bugs. Also put some of the same acros from system into my friends and they started looking amaizng after 2 weeks in his system which leads me to think its not pest related.

oh no! Unless you are for sure you have no pests I wouldn’t put your corals in your friends system. If there are eggs on them you might put their systems in harm.

I guess the next step would be to get a ICP test, but that might be a hit or miss with the result.
