What’s up guys! I bought a second hand system and it’s time to make a few changes and frankly I’m a little too nervous to do myself and I’ll happily pay for peace of mind.

I need to change the return pump from a jaebo to a vectra s2 which in itself is intimidating to me.

I also need to make sure the vectra is properly connected to the battery backup I’ve purchased.

I also have a UV sterilizer but I think I want to pull it off the system because I doubt it’s working properly anyway and the piping is getting in the way of properly working in the sump.

I also have some Wi-Fi outlets I’d like to get set up to make intelligent water changes better.

Happy to pay a fair hourly rate. Please let me know if you’re interested

I think better if you post couple pictures of your sump area and current state of plumbing under the cabinet.
Then we can give you some opinions. And may be you can do it be yourself. :)

Lol I’m happy to post pictures but I really don’t want to do it myself. I’m not handy in any capacity and I seem to have bad luck/break things at critical moments. You should see my water changes, they’re like a three stooges skit. Water flying everywhere (slight exaggeration)

nothing too crazy going on in the sump. I just lack plumbing confidence.

lol. Atleast you know what you're capable of and not.

But truthfully, to be successful in this hobby you need to know the basics and it all starts with equipment. If swapping out a return pump is intimidating then un-intimidate it. Youtube is a very helpful resource. If you rely on someone to do this for you I guarantee it will not be the last and probably for every issue you run in to. Part of this hobby is learning and it all starts with what you're asking.

So bite the bullet and do it yourself. Start with one thing at a time, the return pump. Its just reverse process. Take off the original pump and put the vectra in its place. Play with the controller and you'll self teach yourself. Trial and error is a huge part of the learning curve for this hobby.

I'm not trying to bash you, just my 2cents of the little wisdom that i have. lol.

totally get it, however my issue is that the plumbing going to my current pump isn’t the same and I’ve had to buy a spigot x barb adapter for the vectra, which I have. I haven’t been able to find the oatey pvc glue that I’ve been recommended.

also, you are correct that there’s a huge aspect of DIY involved in this. I’ve already throughly impressed myself as I’ve put in dosing pumps, cut out filter sock holders and installed reef mat. But through that I’ve learned that I’m not “good” at it. I’m happy to pay to have it done perfectly.

There are all kinds of people in this hobby.. some like the DIY.. others Just want a tank.. that's it.. and willing to pay for it... which is awesome Ben Johnson from Reef Beef charges like $250 an hour to consult on setups.

Others pay a monthly fee to make sure the tank is maintained and stocked properly.

Some like to tinker with their motor cycles.. others just want to hop on and ride on the weekends. :)

Why do you need a barb fitting? None of the ecotech pumps i've bought have come with a barb fitting. Just slide the pvc into the top piece and screw it down.

New equipment and technology can be quite intimidating. I’m pretty handy but programming software or using all kinds of different equipment’s software is foreign to me. It’s just learning through trial and error. But it’s easier for me since my tank is not running so I can take my time and if I make a mistake, nothing dies.
