Hey guys,

I am wondering whether I should invest in used chiller or buy cheap fans for my tank. I keep my tank around 78F but during summer my tank reached close to 90. I don't mind keeping it between 78-84 but don't want to pass that point. So, I am wondering what most of you guys use to keep the tank in a right range during hot season.

Thank you!

Chiller here at 79. If you don't want to invest in chiller, can always freeze gallon bottle and fan. Might be tough tho when you tank reaches 90. Also you need to keep watch on it all the time.

good ol clip on fan works for me. Control by RKL to turn on @78. Keep my tank stable at 78 without any major swing. Before adding the fan, my tank with hover around 82.

I keep the thermostat in my house programmed and always keep a threshold when I'm at work. So far the house isn't too hot, tank is at the right temp, and the elec bill isn't bad. i think with new thermostat technology and wifi it's more cost efficient to just cool your house in increments and at the right time rather than investing in a chiller which on it's own makes the house hotter and sucks up alot of electricity.

Now, 1/3 chiller constant temp at 78F. Before I used a fan and worked great at cooling but there was too much humidity in the room.

Have a chiller but don't use it since it heats up the room its in. In my opinion because the room itself is small it starts a viscious cycle of cooling down the tank while its exhaust heats up the tank. If it's going to be 90+ I leave my ac on a thermostat. If it's 90 or below I can get away with a fan in the sump

Fan over the sump always helps with the temp. This year I decided to take it a bit further and put a big fan on top of the DT for a couple of months on the controller to see if it made a difference. It made a huge difference. I was able to keep the tank pegged between 77 and 78 even on those hot days that were in the upper 90's. We don't use the A/C and the house is not insulated all that well. The fans were kicking arse :) I've decided to put my canopy back on and I'm going to put fans across the back of the canopy. I can remove the top during the hotter months which is the only time I expect those fan to kick in. It did however increase the evaporation considerably. So if that a big concern then a chiller or even a split A/C for the room may be better options.

I'm in OC so maybe it was not the upper 90's :becky:, Maybe it was the lower 90's

Thanks for reply guys, It seem like I should give fans a try. I have my tank in small bedroom so chiller might not be wise choice.

I keep the ac in my house at 75 and have a little fan on the sump connected to apex so my temp never changes more than 1 degree

220g, two small fans on the dt and one over the sump. Temp controlled with apex. House AC is around 76f and these days keep the tank at 78f. I got these from target. Like $8 each.
