I'm sure I'm like most people and my sump is prett close to level with my floor. Because of this you can't siphon All the gunk out. I was using a turkey baster but it's a pain in the a$$. Anybody have any better ideas???

I use a powerhead to stir up the detritus and use my return pump to pump out the water during water changes. Another spin on that is to turn off the return pump, use a powerhead to stir up the gunk and crank up the skimmer. Allow the skimmer to pump out the detritus during a water change.

I usually scrub the walls after I shut the pump off before I start draining the water, pump out the bulk with a maxi jet & get the bottom with a shop vac.

I do it once or twice a year with a shop vac and its adaptors to get in between the bubble traps , hate doing it due to very large water change, sump is full of live sponges ,etc.. (It really pisses everything off)

+1 on the Rio pump. I I use a Rio pump and run a hose outside. I start my water change in my overflow box then drain out my sump until it's completely empty and squeaky clean then refill the sump and turn the return pump back on.

I use old school hand pump. I remembered my parents were using this when I was little to pump a fuel to a gas stove in a house. I was surprise to see they still make this plastic old school pump. way it works is ... it only pulls the water when you squeeze the pump and goes out the other hose so, you can target all the crap area and suck it up and out the other ways. if you're lucky you can find it in Korean market where they have dish and kitchen stuff area. I love this thing.
