I have a 150 gallon "extra high" it measures 48L24w30h . what would be the most fish i could have in the tank without fighting high nutrient levels? its a reef tank with mostly docile fish now....

I think it would really depend on max size of the fish. What are you interested in? I have 13 fish in my 120, but all small with the exception of a purple tang.

Oh man, that's a big tank with a lot of possibilities...

You'll never get the right answer with this one, just a large spectrum of opinions...

in that case, I'd shoot for 30+ mix of juvenile tangs, butterflies, triggers, anthias, angels and other filler fish (damsels, chromis)..

I CURRENTLY HAVE: 1 MED SAILFIN, 1 MED YELLOW TANG, (2) 3 STRIPE DAMSELS, 3 SMALL-MED LYRETAIL ANTHIAS, 1 LAWNMOWER BLENNY, 2 CLARKII CLOWNS, 1 DOMINO DAMSEL, 1 BLUE VELVET DAMSEL, 4 CHROMIS, 1 Chinese Zebra Goby, 1 SCOOTER BLENNY.
I PROBABLY HAVE TOO MANY FOR THIS TANK BUT ALL THE FISH ARE RELATIVELY SMALL. ALL FISH GET ALONG GREAT. THE CLOWNS HAVE THEIR NEM SO THEY'RE CONTENT. I HAVE A BUNCH OF CLEAN UP CREW AND A NEW FIRE SHRIMP.

I think you're fine, Glenn, as long as you have a good Cuc and a strong skimmer. I way overskim and have no issues in my 80 with a Melanurus, a PT, A lemonpeel Angel, A pink margin wrasse for "larger fish" and an orchid dottyback, pair of clowns, diamond goby and a pair of Bartlett's...
And I plan to and a pair of neon gobies soon...

Less is more...

Sounds like your alright with what you have now...Unless your running really advanced filtration to keep up with the bio-load or doing constant water changes don't over stock...

I have an epaulette shark about 14 inches long. It will eat small size fish while they sleep. Anything smaller than a chromis will go quick even if you feed it well. However it will not bother your larger fish or snails and tends to leave everything else alone.

Hey Glen I have a 155 48 x 31 x 24 with a huge bioload of fish. If your able to keep your levels good keep adding. Just check your no3 and po4 and keep your water parameters steady.
I just added a flame angel also

I currently have 12 tangs ranging in size from smallest at 5 inch's up to 9inch's, close to adult size...I think RC would ban me for life if they knew about my stocklist :ban:

The Tangs are split into 3 tanks though :aetsch:

Agreed, overskimmming will help a lot, too. My skimmer is rated for 180 on my 80 gallon tank. I have 10 fish and am able to keep my levels consistent.

I used to have in my 150 gal 8 yellow tang, 1 hippo, 1 red sea sail fin, 1 powder blue, 1 naso, 1 purple, 1 sohal, coral beauty, tomato, 2 memo, pink spot goby, San shifter goby. Now that coral are bigger, only have 5 tangs and few small fish. Either time, no problem at all. I over skim and feed little by little to make sure food are consumed.
