I am moving out to Riverside in a few weeks and the apartment I found does not include the water bill in the rent (typically they do in MN). I am just wondering how much people pay. RO/DI filters waste alot of water and I am worried that I may not be able to afford an additional bill on my graduate school stipend. Any info would be appreciated.
thanks

Mine is between $50 to $75 a month in Rancho Cucamonga with daily watering of the front and back yard. Luckily water bills are alot lower than electricty bills

An apartment with it's own water meter?

It's going to depend on what's your responsibility. Most water use is landscaping.

When I lived in an apartment water wasn't metered for usage. It was a flat fee so it didn't really matter if I used more or less water. The water bill was like $20 a month, but that was several years ago in Redlands. We also had to pay trash, sewage, and of course electricity.

A buddy of mine who lived in a different apartment complex paid based on usage for the building, since they were off of 1 meter per building and then it got divided by how many apartments rented out in that building. Each building had 8 apartments.

So if one building had 8 apartments and the water billing was like $300, it would have been divided by 8. Which is about $38 a month per apartment in that building. Sometimes it would be more, sometimes less, but mostly less.

You should be able to ask the landlords how the water, trash, etc is billed.

I am an apartment manager in Whittier with 21 Studios plus my 2 bedroom and the bill runs around 200 a month. Most important if you want to save $$ and H2O make sure you have a water saving tiolet. They now have them with two flushes one for #1 and one for #2 #1 uses only .08 gallons of water and the reg is 1.6 gallons per flush. Most likely you will need to have installed with MGR permission or just watch your water usage.
