My credit card each month is about $300 for the hobby not including cash. Wife always complained. Oh and she thinks people are crazy for giving stuff away, since I got a lot of "FREE" coral and stuff from people in the forum.

I just hope she doesn't sneak around my computer and found this post. :afraid::afraid::afraid:

I dont even want to think about..
I have been spending a good portion of my loan money toward my tank..
Im just glad it is a 58 gallon and shouldn't cost as much to fill up

But unfortunately for me, I have expensive taste:loldude:

Hahaha I've just started my tank for about 2 months and I've spent closed to 2 grands already. Oh yeah, I do get a lot of free stuffs & fish from people I know on this forum here too. At least that's what I told her. She did give me the 110g tank with stand/canopy for my birthday though. And she also paid for some fishes that I'd let her picked. Right now, I don't have an average spending for this hobby yet, but I knew it's gonna be a lot.
Corey, I hope she'll find out and make you quit this hobby so I can get good stuffs from ya.. hehe

Thankfully I don't really have a personal tank...only my business holding tank. That GREATLY reduces my monthly spending. If I had a big tank I would spend ridiculous amounts of money...especially since I could buy everything at wholesale!

But yes, I've gotten a lot of "free" or "traded" stuff as well.... ;)

If our wives got together they would find out some of the rarest and most expensive corals were given away (if only this were true).
My wife says coral is the crack of the fish world you never are satisfied, you always need more and always looking for more this is why around my house I am known as the reef junkie.I told my wife I would rather be a coral junkie than a crack junkie any day

"I traded one of my frags for it honey"...LOL!!! I budget $200 every pay period for frags, drygoods and my latest tank build. I also have a secret part time job she don't know about. If I really want something pricey I tell her there is something wrong with my car & I need alot of cash to fix it.

In the past 2-months I have spent well over $1500... However, I did get a new skimmer and added a single bulb T5 fixture. But if it wasn't for those two items I am sure I would still be over $200 a month easy. I find myself thinking often... hmmmm what could I buy. In fact, this reminds me I need to order more DI, GFO, and GAC from BRS right now so I can have it before I need to change my GFO next week. It is expensive but fun. I guess I know now what it feels like for girls in Nordstroms.

I forgot to add up the money spent at RAP. It's much better to be addicted to this than be addicted to many other things out there. Another question beyond how much money spent per month, how about how many hours reading, researching, maintaining, feeding, dosing, testing water and typing...whew, lots.

I'm finally to a place where I don't spend all that much weekly/monthly. Way under $100/month. If I were to average it out over the last year, I'd say somewhere around $60-70/month. Electricity is $20/month, but beyond that, I haven't spent much money in some time. Not setting up new tanks saves way more money than I realized.
