Cal (Ying) - test and adjust once a month
Alk (and Yang) - test and adjust once a week or more, depends on how my corals look and feeding habits, I find this the most important part of my reef
Mag - test and adjust once a month, add once a month
Sal - test and adjust once a month, I have a ATO
Nitrate - don't test anymore
Ph - don't test anymore

Since my tank is running stable I test less frequently. Current schedule:
Weekly for Alk and SG.
Monthly for Ca, Mg, ph & K (only because I use ZEO).
I have a tempature & pH probe 24x7 on AC3 controller.

IMO... hobbiest grade titration kits for PO4 are worthless and the NO3 kits aren't much better.

When I first set up the tank a few years ago I tested everything weekly.

wow, really depends on the tank. I haven't tested my nano in months. I haven't tested my pico ever (not even for temp), but I test my 40 almost everyday for alk... It's getting more stable now--it just got to the point where fully saturated kalk couldn't keep up with ca/alk, so I've had to figure out how much 2-part to add daily.

Everything is pretty stable now so I don't test my water parameters the way I used to but I will test it when something looks off in my tank. Visual observations have always worked for me :)

the visual test is my method as well. if something seems off i break out the chemicals and see what's going down. if the tank is happy, the water is happy.
