How to kill Hydroids?

I've been battling some for about 3 years. Kalk didn't work, what did was putting that reef putty/epoxy over anywhere I found them. Now I only see one every 3-4 months and cover it up, before that they were everywhere...

Do you pull the epoxy off after it has died? Other wise I found a Klein angel picks at them

I just leave it there, every so often they'll still be alive somehow and start growing out of one of the edges, these things are awful.
