Hi peoples,

I am in the market for a used rimless or eurobraced tank. Its not a huge tank but at the same time it could be a bit pricey since I am looking for starfire.

So far, I have come across tanks that are premanufactured (24x24x20) and others that are custom. To keep things within scope of this question, lets take 24x24x20 semicubes. How can I tell who made the tank? I know for a fact that both cadlight and clear diamond make the same style tank. I would assume Leemar does as well.

Pricing for tanks new is Leemar>>Cadlight>Clear Diamond. What I do not want to have happen is pay a Leemar price for a clear diamond tank provided everything else is equal and tank is used.

This isnt meant to start a flamewar. I know all three of these manufacturers make good tanks and sometimes not so great tanks. This is strictly asking if there is a way to tell who made what tank due to new price differences.

True but what about tanks that are 800-900 used (leemar tanks). New cadlight would be the same price. I agree that each company make good tanks, but you wouldnt say that about buying a benz or a bmw or a lexus. Granted the prices dont have the same 00000, but if I am looking for a tank and I know its a cadlight, I know what the new price is, and I know what it should be used approximately. Same with other manufacturers. I am trying to avoid someone saying its a Leemar when its really a cadlight or another manufacturer. Hope that makes sense.

the only way to tell is if you see both in person or really know one manufacturer. For example, if you know cadlights then you would know those clear diamonds are not cadlights. The sump setup for cads and cleardiamond are the same but the protein skimmer is different for one. My best advice is check out a real cadlight at a store first. But Steve is also right, if the price is right...

most leemars have a black protective layer under the tank with a perfect circle cut out dead center. Main thing is to inspect the quality. I've seen cadlights tanks but not a clear diamond but as long as the panels line up perfectly, the silicone isn't sloppy, and the edges are beveled and polished nicely then its a good tank. As for used tanks, if they're advertising it as leemar, there's a decent chance it's a leemar. BTW I don't think Leemar makes the ready to go out of the box packages like cad and diamond do. If you find a tank for sale hit up the forum. Good chance if its one of those brands its a reefer or a friend of one here
