Here's the skinny:
I recently (and haphazardly) took down my 100gal reef tank (no SPS) and moved some of my live rock, all corals and all fish from Irvine to San Diego and transplanted into a 39gal Red Sea Max.
I used appx. 50% of the original water and then topped off the rest with a RO/Salt combo.
Everything was proceeding nicely for the first 48hrs. Then...I woke up on the third day to find a terribly cloudy tank, my corals unbelievably stressed out (or dead) and that three of 5 fish were dead or barely conscious.
Suffice to say, the pH in the tank had dropped to 7.0, amonia had spiked, nitrite was a bit high and salinity a bit low.
That's the bad news....
So here's where I need your help. This is what I have done so far...
1. Did a 50% water change immediately.
2. Purchased and have been applying as directed a pH buffer.
3. Added a significant amount of carbon to the tank.
4. Got rid of all dead coral and extraneous debris.
5. Added an anti-bacterium solution as recommended by a local store in SD.
Results:
Water is very clear.
pH is almost at 8.2
Salinity is perfect
Fish are happy
None of the corals have come back :-(
Water temp is ideal at 79.7F
What else can I do?
How long do I wait to add more rock?
How long do I wait to add new corals?
Thank you, your advice is greatly appreciated.
