So yesterday I made the drive to RG in Vista. I picked up a few fish and corals. Two of those fish just just regular ocellaris clowns. Once I got home I acclimated them to my tank and them put them in my refugium.
About 4 hours later (8pm) I check on them and they are both doing good and eating.
So once my DT lights go out my fuge light comes on (9pm), I check on them once more before I go to bed and there is only 1 fish in there!

I started to look around for it and nothing. I pulled out my cheato and rock rubble to see if maybe it went into the rubble and still nothing. Can clowns jump out of the water? If so how high? I thought maybe it went into my skimmer compartment which the baffle is right on level with the water line of my fuge but still didnt find him there. Is it possible that he could have been sucked in by my skimmer pump? Clown fish was about 1.5"

I looked everywhere for the little guy but I dont know. I checked behind the sump, to the sides, under my skimmer, fuge, even under the couches! hahaha. My only thought was that he pulled off a Nemo move and made it back to the ocean.

Any idea what could have happened?

If the clownfish is not hosting and you turn off the light they go nuts, some just pace back and forth on the glass, and yes they can jump, specially to the other compartment. I had a few in my sump as well. One ended up in the skimmer inlet and the other died since it got stuck in the sponge I had.

Do you think he would have been able to jump out of the sump?

Ill have to check my skimmer cup today when I get home to see if I see any signs of him, probably wont but still.

they don't jump that high so I highly doubt it, he is still in your sump, check under the skimmer maybe its hiding there.

I had a melenarus wrasse that dissappeared 2 hours after i released him into the tank. After 1 week i gave up on looking for him. Couple days later my wife sends me a picture of it in the tank. Took another 3 days before i actually got to see it. Now its a show off and comes up to me when I'm near the tank. Crazy how well some of these fish can hide.

I did, I even pulled the sock thinking he might be hiding somewhere and nothing. The skimmer intake is where im thinking he went then. My return has a cover on it so it wouldnt have gone into that.

If you notice a decrease in bubble in your skimmer then yeah... sucks

You don't think he is stuck inside a peice of rubble? I had a tang hiding in a chunck of rock the size of my fist. Was breaking down the tank and after i pulled all the rock to catch the fish i didn't see the tang. Found him lodged in that rock a half hour later. Had to carefully chip him out cause he wouldn't come out.

Yeah I had a wrasse do that also, but some are known to burrow themselves in the sand for a few days when you first put them in the tank.

Yeah i read up on them hiding in the sand. But after a week and some of no sign of him, i gave up. Was mad cause he was my first big fish purchase 45$ (baller, i know). Also had a paired watchman goby and candycane pistol shrimp, after a month they both dissappeared but yet never found bodies. Pretty sure the goby ended up jumping out and in the belly of my cat. But 3 months later i noticed this hole in the sand under a rock. Turns out the shimp is still alive just never shows himself. Once in a great while i will get a glimpse of him at the entrance but never have seen more then that. Finally figured out the random clicking coming from my tank was him.
