Hey Guys, been a while but ive been busy house hunting, finally got an accepted offer, and im trying to plan a few things out. One thing I really liked about this house was where im going to put my tank shared a wall with the garage and I was planning on putting my sump and equipment out there but since this house is in RIVERSIDE, I have some concerns with keeping the tank cool. I will be hooking up a chiller to this set up but I dont want my electricity bill to be thru the roof, more than it already will be. Tank will be 220g with a 110g sump.

Anybody in Riverside or anywhere just as hot have a fishroom in there garage????????

Im in Temecula and only have 35 gallon tanks atm but my chiller hasn't been hooked up yet I found that a good t stat seemed to keep it in balance I have a high end Honeywell iaq and it has set points sobo can tell it don't let house get below 72 or above 76 so it auto switches heat to cool with that I haven't needed my chiller and tank has never gotten above 81 it usually holds at 79.6 also reduced my monthly bill by like 150 bux

I think ur best bet is the chiller and a fan on the sump. Ur chiller will def run a lot during the summer, but u can always have the garage insulated if its not already, and add a duct from ur house AC to ur garage. If I could put my sump and filtration in the garage, I would do it in a heartbeat, even if it meant buying a chiller and dealing with a higher electricity bill. The convenience of having everything in the garage is bad assss

Also if u don't already have an apex or some type of temp controller, I would say that is a must. U can have the fan turn on at 79* and the chiller turn on at 79.5*, so at least that will Prevent the chiller from running 24/7 during these super hot spells like we're having right now.

The garage is insulated dry wall on all walls except the garage doors... but I don't want to freak out the wife soooooo bad with the electricity bill with having a fishroom apposed to not. How about parjing in the garage ? Will the humid salt air damage the cars or is it dry enough outside? And will the cars exhaust pollute the tank?

Yeah I don't park my car in the garage cuz there is also a pool table in there, but even if there wasn't I still would not park it close to the tank because of fear of the exhaust. My garage is also insulated.

I am not in the I.E. but my equipment is all outside. Chiller runs periodically in the summer and heaters in the winter.Very simple water changes etc. If you have room can you enclose your equipment and air condition the room. that will keep the salt from attacking the car. LMK , I am planning on relocating to AZ in about 5 yrs. If that works I will try it with my setup. Good Luck and congrats on the new house

Hey Jeremy I'm in Riverside. Where are you moving to? I can lend a hand if you need. I wouldn't put my sump in the garage. Its too dang hot in the summer and your heater would run 24/7 in the winter...not to mention the evaporation. The ONLY way I would do it would be if it had an ATO connected directly to the RO/DI and I had an oversized chiller. It was 105 this last weekend in Downtown. HTH...

Oh yeah and FORGET parking a car in the garage if you have your sump there. That's an easy way to make your tank crash in minutes!

This is what I was thinking... I think im going to put both an rodi reservoir as well as a salt water reservoir and have it plumbed into the tank for auto water change set up, and have the reservoirs in the garage, and the sump and rest of equipment under the tank. since the tank dimensions will be 72 x 30wide x 24tall, I should have a decent amount of room under that tank.

I am going to be moving into the orangecrest area near van burren and orange terrace . well as long as this house appraises *fingers crossed*
