IEMAS Meeting

When: Saturday April 9th, 2022 12pm, noon

Location:
Reef Lounge Norco
969 Sixth St
Norco, CA 92860
United States

Topic: Membership drive/Formatting the club/Round table discussion

Please bring your ideas and voices, what would you like to get from a local reef club.

Things I’m working on getting club members.
I’m working on getting discounts a sponsored LFS, monthly coral and live stock raffles, monthly members only raffles, Frag swaps, equipment swaps, tank tours, LFS tours…..

Food: I was planning on ordering a few pizzas and bringing a few cases of soda. Ok so my plan was to sell the pizza for a $1 or $2 depending on the price of the Pizza. This is why I’d be selling the pizza for one I’d be covering the upfront costs (any profits will be going towards future events or raffle prizes) and I’d like to at least get my money back. Secondly if we were at a restaurant you would be buying your own food. If Pizza is a yea or na let me know. I’d eventually like to do a bbq or something. But we have to start somewhere, and pizza is like a JB even bad pizza is better then no BJ

I’d like to welcome old and new members back and let’s build the inland empire reef and aquarium seen

Last but not least let’s please be respectful to each other’s and to the host and his customers. Let’s show and welcome new members to a great group of reefers in the IE

As a heads up I’m working on getting chairs but for the time being please bring a folding chair or something to sit on. There’s most likely not going to be enough chairs to go around. So if your not fond of standing for the length of the meeting then bringing your our chair would be wise.

Yes I know this statement is very ironic coming from me! Being my online personality is being a giant douche. But I hope I’m very pleasantly in person.

I'd like to attend, and join the club! Thanks for putting this together.
No problem!

I’m just hoping we can build a community of reefers in the IE.

I just urge people to participate.

I sometimes feel that in this hobby there’s a lot people hopping the other guy to fail so they can make more profits. But I feel if we help each other we can built a community and show others that there’s a lot of help at someone fingers. Then show non-aquariums that these tanks ain’t all that hard to keep and maintain that we’ll grow the hobby and we all succeed.

Let me ask you sir @Gedxin, other then setting up your wife’s 5g what got you to fall in love with aquariums?
Then what attached you to salt water?

In the works to get an aquarium controller for the members only raffle.
Do people that want to be a member have a preference between Neptune or Hydros?

Absolutely would love to help build the community.

A number of things got me interested in aquariums. I think the top of the list is the beauty that comes from keeping plants and fish in an artificial environment. It's a bit like your house, you make it as nice/pleasurable as you're willing to put in the effort (and sometimes money.) At the same time, another enjoyment is a double edged sword: the challenge. Can I keep these plants/animals/fish alive? I think the massive variety of coral attracted me to saltwater. Also the various feeding responses and colors are a real joy to witness.

In the works to get an aquarium controller for the members only raffle.

I vote Neptune because I eventually plan to get a DOS for an auto waterchanger setup. Both have great reviews.

Hydros, but it really is personal preference, maybe controller isn't the best raffle idea?

I’m not sure what the wife’s plan on that day but if she doesn’t have any plans I will be attending. I could maybe bring 5-6 racks of smoked baby back ribs depending on how many I can fit in the smoker, maybe you can sell them too and keep all the proceed for future events. Don’t expect too much though I’m still green to this meat smoking thing.

Why would it not?

Here’s my reasoning of raffling a controller. I meet so many new reefers these day that say “Man I wish I had the money to spend on an apex?” They come over to my house and see how my one apex runs 4 tanks, a mixing station, and automated the ro/di.
I’ve said this for years “yes controllers are expensive, but just like divorce, they’re worth it!”

Sounds amazing. Do you have a post that explains the setup?

Just wanted to remind the group that the meeting is next weekend.

Please bring your ideas and voices, what would you like to get from a local reef club.

We will be raffling off corals and live stock during the meeting. Tickets will be sold for the items being raffles.

Members only raffle will be a Neptune Apex EL: to be eligible for the Neptune ApexEL you must attend this meeting and pay membership dues. Each member that pays there annual membership due will get a raffle ticket for the ApexEL. Annual due will be $20. All profits from raffles will be put back into the club for future events/raffles.

Food: I was planning on ordering a few pizzas and bringing a few cases of soda. Ok so my plan was to sell the pizza for $2 a slice. Any profits will be going towards future events/raffle prizes. Then secondly if we had the meeting at a restaurant you as the attendee would be buying your own meal. I’d eventually like to do a bbq or something. But we have to start somewhere, right.

Please share this on any SoCal reef or aquarium group if they allow you too.

Excited to meet you all! Not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to hearing/talking about reefing IRL. It's not exactly something I can converse about with others at family gatherings.
