I've seen a couple of postings warning people to pull down thier frags for sale, something about that they were illegal? I think it was LPS, but not ssure....I tried google but got a bunch of obscure references to Hawiian residents.

Are there species of coral that I should avoid ddue to regulations and/or preservation laws? Tx for the info.....:bump2:

OK, so there arent any California regulations on owning corals? I just dont want to violate any laws, which I am ssure would be in place for conservation purposes....

hawaiian black coral is very illegal to own and sell... i know a couple of people that have it... i might get a frag soon...

also, some corals are illegal to import... like, we can't get corals imported directly from japan... like micromussas and deepwater zoas... also, we can't get corals and fish from mexico... that's why the clarion angels are so dayum ballA!!...

but still... other than the distributors being shady, there is no coral we cannot sell... also, every forum has different rules for selling livestock...

There illegal species of algae.. No corals I can think of
um... i don't think they are truly illegal... they are illegal to sell... but not to own... but you have to practice responsible reef keeping while handling macro algaes...

in 2008 there was a huge break of caulerpa taxafolia in long beach... a reefer threw it in there i guess... there's no other explanation... they had to lay down huge tarps over the algae and pump chlorine under there to kill it off... killing off the rest of the marine fauna under the tarps... it was horrible... but caulerpa taxafolia is the only macro algae that has been genetically altered by being in the reef tanks... it can handle all sorts of different water qualities, and temperatures now... that's why it's illegal to sell...

deepwater coral... i don't know if it's in the family of acros... since it cannot retract it's polyps... but it does have algae to eat... it also grows super slow... that colony shot i put up must be around a thousand years old...
