I picked up an emerald crab the weekend before last to try to take care of some algae. Mr. Crabs was awesome, even though he insisted on hosting my frogspawn. He ate a bunch of my problem areas. But then he killed one of my stomatellas... I caught him in the act. It was kind of cute how he hugged the body to himself as he tore chunks out of it, but I do love my stomatellas (only had 3... Two big ones and a baby). Then it seemed like the little blue-legged hermits might have been disappearing, so Mr. Crabs was unceremoniously dumped into an unheated QT pergatory until I could get him back to the LFS. However I think the hermits might actually be okay and he was falsely accused.

Today is the first opportunity to take him back and I think he's gotta go. Every time I think about putting him back in the DT I think about the remaining stomatellas. :( But we really liked him...

Good call...stomatellas are bullet proof as I had turned off power and heat in my 100 and a week later found a couple stomatellas still moving around the freezing cold water...now they are in coral holding nano....I agree with you, stomas over emeralds.

Maybe the snail was dead already?
I don't think so. :( He was pretty fresh and so far the mortality rate in the tank is really low. The other big stomatella is looking really good. I think Mr. Crabs just saw his opportunity and took it... the stomatellas don't have a lot of protection.

i have a gazillion stomatellas in my frag tank. if you wanna stop by, i can scrape up some for ya.
I will totally take you up on that next time I'm headed out that way. :)

Mr. Crabs is sitting in the cupholder right now (in a cup!) on his way back to SPS. He's a good little crab, I hope he finds another home (without stomatellas) and a nice comfy frogspawn to hang out in.

they're weird. during the "day" (the tank is on a reverse lighting cycle), they are all huddled at the base of the powerhead in a clump. once the light goes off, it's like a f'n free for all. they're ALL over the tank.
