Question for the PRO's:
I have a really what I think is a really cool looking deep maroon purplely red algae that's been all over my LR for quite some time now. I also have the typical purple as well. It's hard like coralline and it's beautiful. Is this a type of coralline or do I have a problem?

Yeah it's coralline....there are tons of different types. Obviously purple, but green, red, and then I've seen a plating type of purple that is really rare. Don't worry you've got no problems.

Brice... thanks for the quick reply. Ya...I never thought it was an issue...I'd seen it in other reefers tanks. Another reefer came over to my house and really questioned me on it.... I just wanted to make sure it wasn't what he thought it was. I told him pretty much what you said. Thanks again.

you beat me to it Gumbo. that's my favorite too...but in my tank, it only grows on the rock where my blueberry fields is about to encrust over it. then it turns white and then the sps spreads there. funny too, almost like that pink/neon orange coraline is the first phase or rock cleaner in preparation for the coral growth.

but yeah rob, it's just coraline, you have nothing to worry about. enjoy the nice color.

Thanks guys. Ya...I've had the hard Green before too. Not as pretty. The Red and Purple is all over my LR. I think it looks awesome. After reading some of your remarks, I do see a really bright orange that grows on the edge of where my Rainbow Monti is encrusting. Is this a type too?

yup..exactly like the kind i get. bright pink/orange that grows on the edge of encrusting corals right before they encrust there.
