whats the downside? I feel like it would be better to just do 4 Maxwell that can handle 12-20 and wie them in a series

Have you looked into running meanwell LDD drivers with a power supply. They are more cost effective than running the 4 meanwell 60-48's, cant speak on the Maxwells as I do not know much about them.
