That is indeed the correct picture. Wish I was more computer savvy, just could not figure out how to copy it. Anyway, spectacular colors. Lots of questions about the photography and lighting, etc have been raised on the other forum. Interesting drama to see the fans rally around the vendor and others shout fraud. Although the vendor has been around for a long time and brought some amazing corals to the market. He has garnered a great deal of respect within the hobby

And I would be delighted to discover that this is a true representation of the coral. Certainly LEDs do indeed lead to some interesting glow. The photographer is a professional photographer and is defending it as an accurate representation of the coral.

This photograph makes me scratch my head and wonder. Although I would not expect anyone including the vendor and photographer to be deceitful, this one seems like it is possible that it may have had some favorable editing and/or perhaps it is just remarkable lighting and a remarkable coral. But the bottom-line, I don't really know. The walt disney has had similar reaction but I have seen videos online of the growers tank with multiple frags of the walt disney and it does indeed look as portrayed (even if no one else has been able to capture a similar photograph or video of the walt disney acro) So it makes we wonder: are we seeing a super colorful coral under ideal LED lighting plus whatever other lighting is going on or is this all just wishful thinking.

Yea there was a argument about this on reef 2 reef and Jason Fox swore it wasent Photoshopped but he wouldn't provide a normal pic to prove it.

there's photoshop, and there's PHOTOSHOP.

anyone remember the photos i edited, which turned a regular RBTA into some crazy nem? it had very little saturation boost, and no color tweaking (i'll see if i can find the pic).

in my opinion, the photo is photoshopped, not PHOTOSHOPPED.

the saturation was probably bumped just a tad, color temperature adjusted a little past 10k to give a better representation, which makes the pink colors pop more. the biggest factor here, however, is the reduction of the blacks and shadows in the picture. by reducing the dark values, you make everything else POP, no color magic needed.

look at the upper left side side of the SPS polyps. see how there's a slight "halo" around the pink/purple tip against the liverock background? that's your tell tale sign that the levels have been bumped.

(like this)

the greater question is this: if you bought this SPS, will it ever look like this in your tank (regardless of the lighting you use)?

the answer to that is "NO", because you'll never be able to adjust your eyes to create that contrast between the dark values.

IMO (and it doesn't matter to anyone but me) the only thing that should be "adjusted" is to account for the blue LEDs. White balance should be adjusted to match the temperature of the dominant light. That's it.

That coral will probably sell for several hundred dollars because of his name and what the picture looks like.

Straight up False advertising.

I saw the coral at RAP and Brian from Age got a frag, pretty close to true color under LED, if you have not seen what Jason Fox can do search some of his video's here is a sample that was posted recently on another site.

He has quite the collection and his reef ninja skills are legendary, I know photos can be altered, but look at the video and all the health in a mixed reef, Incredible! Now check out his 700!

I don't doubt Jason Fox is an acro stud and can crank out awesome looking corals. Just commenting on the picture of that piece being cosmetically touched up. Not an expert on photoshop but did learn a little bit about hue and saturation from youtube.

It's pretty easy to get shots like this if you don't have any white in the picture to white balance or if it's shot under blue lamps only. You can't really get true colors if you shoot under blues only, that's what this looks like.

You don't even have to tweak saturation to get it. I bet it's an awesome piece though.

The picture is clearly photoshopped and won't look like that in real life. BUT, I think that when you see the coral in real life, it'll look really nice and people will just forget about the photoshopped picture and will give Jason Fox props and say he is legit. In other words, the picture is used to create hype on an already nice looking coral and his fanboys will back him up because the coral does look nice (just not as nice or glowing like in the picture). Reef 2 Reef is a cult. There's too much money involved in sponsorship to call these people out. Mods are very protective of their sponsors.
