My Mandarin has been healthy, picking pods, nice and fat... He was cruising around this morning when I started my water change... got the siphon hose a bit too close, and he got spooked, swam right into the GBTA and got stung by it. 10 minutes later, he was dead...
I know I am just a noob to reefing, but if I can't keep my fish from getting hurt and dying, this may not be the hobby for me....:banghead:

Sorry to hear about Mr. Fish. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Just remember fish and coral die everyday in the wild. Give yourself some time, with a little patients you will get the hang of it.

Best wishes, :ciao:

One thing you can do for a water change is take the water from the sump. Then you put the new water in the sump. This prevents any of the fish from being spooked and prevents you from disrupting the tank.

it can be painful at times. I don't even want to think about the trial and Many Errors i have had in the past. Some days it's like burning money.

Don't give up, heck what would you do with your time without your Reef?

I don't think a sting from a gbta can kill it that easy. that's just me though. good luck anyways.

I agree with drew shark its a good idea to take it from the sump thats the way my friend told me to do it and it seems to be the better way to do it.

It's a good idea not to name your "new pets", at least not until you have been doing this for a while. When I started a lot of the problem was not getting/having enough information before making a purchase. Still remember that pretty sea apple that disintegrated and killed EVERYTHING in my tank (cuke nuke). I still make impulsive buys now and then, like a lawn mower blenny that left his mouth prints on all the other fish until my mimic tang took him in hand and would not let him come out to eat until he eventually starved.
