Checked out the tidepools around Poipu today. Saw a bunch of cool fish. More pics as the trip continues. ...

Strange, the petco in lihue sells saltwater fish, and most are not from the sea here. I see a problem with introducing non-native fish to the reefs here. Plus potentially introducing ich, brook, etc. Smh.

I went to Lawai beach / cove this morning. It's in Poipu. BEST SNORKELING ON THE ISLAND SO FAR! Hundreds of fish! At one point, I had 8 large racoon butterflies swimming with me. Saw a couple Achilles tangs, two potters wrasse, three cleaning stations with the Hawaiian cleaner wrasses, saw probably 40 different species of fish. I need to get a waterproof camera or phone case so I can snap pictures. Going into the same spot tomorrow!

Back again today. No camera. As soon as I got in, saw a 4 line wrasse. I collected some hermit crabs. 1 Halloween and 6 Orange and black ones altogether, between my wife and I. There are lots of them out there. Near the end of the dive, saw a long nose butterfly. Two firsts for me today, the wrasse and the butterfly.

We stayed in poopoo (poipu) a few winters ago and saw a ton of fish. There were even baby achilles and convicts, wrasses & moorish idols in tide pools near spouting horn.
