I recently switched from my AI primes over to a couple Kessils. I was planning to go T5 but after speaking with the Kessil reps I was pretty interested and that turned into impulse buying a couple new lights. I am really really impressed so far not sure if my AIs were not setup correctly but I am seeing colors that did not show up well under the primes. That and I love the fact that the white channel on these is much more metal halide-esk.

I feel like I could get more out of it, I hardly use the red channel and haven't used green at all. Can anyone share their settings , maybe a photo of the tank , SPS / LPS dominant?

At peak I run the "color" setting at 80 so fairly white.

Should definitely get a par meter before you crank the intensity above 50%.

Kessils been known to burn corals. Even older units after losing par can put out really good power.

If I were you, I’d keep with the AI primes to supplement. I switched my system to Kessils and reef brites and I noticed one of my wonderlandesque gonis looked really good when it was in my frag tank (ai prime) but less colorful after I moved it into my main system.

I think I’m going to do a combo ai or Radion with reef brites, supplemented with the Kessils from an angle to simulate the metal halide effect.

Yeah I used a PAR meter to match intensity to my AI Primes. I bumped it slightly but have it set to an acclimation period.

It's such a small tank more lighting isn't really too practical considering I am running two kessils. Tank is 36 x 15 for reference. Im getting a pretty good blanket of light. I have set-up a frag section in the sump lit by a prime so I can swap corals between if I notice any ill effects.

I definitely agree I think on a larger tank a Radion / Kessil or T5/ Kessil combo would look great.

Yeah two Kessils would definitely be enough coverage. I have too much light myself so dial everything down. But certain spectrums of certain lights can really bring out the colors in some corals.

Still tweaking mine. Lol

Tank looks good though man!

I've used Kessil's exclusively over my last two sps tanks, so here's my take on using them. You'll want to match the violet channel to your peak intensity (slowly increase, 5% per week until you reach your max intensity), color is personal preference, but I like 20-40% color. Using red & green will bring out some colors in corals and fish, but keep them under 20%, I think 5-10% max is fine. Your peak period should be 6-8hrs and your ramp can be anywhere from 2-3hrs (your choice). You'll have to play with their position relative to each other to even out the hot spot. Mounting height should be 8-9" above the water. Just go slow when increasing intensity and observe your corals, they'll tell you when you've gone too far. 2-5% increases at a time, then wait another week or so, then increase again until you reach a good balance. I'll try to post some pics.

Thanks for the tips, raising the violet gave it a better look. I will tweak it slowly but overall really digging the lights.
