T5s give great color and growth, but nothing beats the "POP" that LEDs give corals and fish. If u can afford a t5/led hybrid, that would be the way to go.

BUT first, how the helll did your light fall into the water?

I wanted all three MH, T5, and LEDs on my 96" DT:) I ended up with Ecoxotic Cannons, Cebu Sun, and Sicce can't wait to watch each and see differences.

I didn't want to use brackets because that's how my Metal halides fell last time. So I hang them and they fell straight down while I was installing them.

It really depends on what you're willing to deal with. MH are the best, but they run hot and you may need a chiller to use them. T5's are the next best thing, but it'll cost you in bulbs. If you can get a nice Tek fixture, that'll save you a couple of bucks on a fixture. LEDs would be my third choice, but the good fixtures can be expensive. Also, you might need multiple fixtures to cover your 60" tank. If you want something cheaper, look into the Reef Breeder fixtures.

So it really comes down to electricity, bulb, and fixture cost.

So... On EBay I just got a 36" Halide/T5 fixture for $132.00 from a seller called "topdogsellers"
Same seller has 60" 250w Halide w/ 4 T5's for $332.00 they also have 72" fixtures as well.
I got mine in about 4days. Well worth the $

Sorry to hear Orbel. let it dry out for a week and if it doesn't turn in open it up and see what you can replace to get it fired up again.

I already lit it up today only moonlights work.
I'll try again in a week.

I was looking at aqua traders they have really cheap stuff. Also can you post a link I couldn't find the seller

Check out the Pacific Sun hybridsled / t5.
I seen them but they are out of my price range almost 3k for coverage for my system

So... I tried to attach a link, but for whatever reason it doesn't want to work. What I just did to find the aforementioned "topdogsellers" was search "Hailde" in "pet supplies". I just used " best match" as the search option, and Topdogsellers was the 1st seller that popped up.

I like the fixture. Has separate switches for T5, led, and fan as well as a separate electronic ballast w/ switch for that halide. The bulb that came with the fixture was a 14k, bit I also ordered from another seller a 20k bulb for an earth shattering $10 each..

I have 2 of these fixtures now, and they work great. My other is a 72" over my 240.

Just picked up a 60" 4 bulb T5 with led moons and built in timer for my 60" tank from topdogsellers (same as aquatraders). Snug fit inside the hood, but so far so good. Added 2x80w that I was running before so I'm running 6x80w with exotica led for a little extra pop.

Like Damian mentioned already, Metal Halides are the best option in terms of growth and coloration. Its not even close. If you don't want to deal with the heat and electricity issues, then T5HO are the next best option for growth and coloration. Finally the third best option would be LEDs.

So it all depends on what your priorities are and preferences are. All three are proven to work. Its more about what works best for you.
