Anyone with insight on this please comment. I bought an AGA Mission stand/canopy/tank for a STEAL! But of course I wanted a bigger, better tank on it than the 75g it came with, so I ordered a fancy pants Lee-Mar 110.

The AGA stand says it's good for 75g, 90g, 110g AGA tanks. But what about other tanks? Obviously these stands are designed to hold tanks which sit on a trim, which Lee-Mar tanks do. But wow, only the 4 corners and a back post touching the tank??? I can get it reinforced, but do I have to? I mean, AGA wouldn't make a stand that wouldn't hold....are their tanks designed anything special for their stands?

Thoughts?

I've seen some threads on RC and have seen some of the stands in person. They look nice but are plactic laminated MDF or particleboard. Wipe up spills immediately. The threads on RC were larger tanks- maybe 240G and the base of the stand did not support the sump (no toe kick) so over time with spills and the weight- cracked the bottom of the stand. Add some supports to the bottom to prevent problems. As far as the stand, I have heard tanks with plastic trim really only need to be supported on the 2 end panels. But this is second hand info and not from a mfg. It couldn't hurt to ask Leemar, especially on a new set up.

maybe the stand you have was not built right, I would contact the maker, that would not be good with water in it.

I think Dave just braced Stans stand which is identical to yours, right Peter? He said the same thing about the toe kick joint.....not suitable for a sump long term. Since he's already done one you might wanna talk to him (I'm sure you have already ;))

Yeah, the base is pretty much just for looks. No worries about adding some support under there. Dave already mentioned that to me as well.

Just wondering about the tank/stand interface. Well, I suppose I can always ask Lee-Mar at MAX, since I'll just be getting the tank a week or two before then. I just feel like I'm buying a car here, and buying a second set of 4 wheels for it

Here's the actual stand/canopy:
