i use chaeto and calerpa, i forget the name of it but it vines and roots into anything it touches. It is completely rooted into the 6"sanbed.

for you.. If it were my set up, I would add a giant tub in your shed as a remote refugium. I've seen your set up and think you have the room. Jorge from reefers cove has one of those square bins as his refugium, i always thought that was a good idea. you could probably find a used acrylic 180 for dirt cheap and insulate it completely from all sides with foam. fill it with different macros and flood it with light.
Yea I thought about taking my whole sump and putting it outside, but then I would have to deal with temp fluctuations and also every time I wanna tinker with stuff I have to walk outside to my shed. It's very do able, but idk if it's worth the head ache. :/

How would i plumb it?? My house sits a little higher then the side yard where the shed is. Unless I built a stand for the fuge to sit on. Pump water to the fuge, then have it gravity feed back to the sump? Sounds tricky and also what if power goes out? I've been seriously thinking about doing something like that. Just not positive on how to do it.

blah blah blah. You can dish it out but you can't take it.

BTW- I have one and it works by exporting nutrients because of the macro algae.

My point exactly. Thanks!
well what I was trying to say is ....if you don't like it don't start it . im not trying to put you down or to make fun of you ... in person you are cool but some times you can be a Jack Wagon in others threads and I speak from experience and say this in the intent to help you not put you down but.... if you are less of a a$$ to people the less $h!t you take and more the people are cool and respectful so you may have changed recently but it may take a minute for people to forgive and or forget and accept you as a contributing part of our community. I acknowledge the recent change and commend you for it but it may take others a bit longer to do the same I wish you luck and it is refreshing to see you start such a constructive thread to help others

The bigger the better when running a true refugium most hobbiest do not run a refugium they run a catch all.
What is a refugium? A safe place where life can flourish without preadation...the end! You can have many different kinds of refugiums so knowing what you want your refugium to do, will determined the size needed.
If you want it to help with supplying your DT with snacks thru out the day/night and as a nutrient up take then minimum 25% of system volume. I would go larger and use a stemmed/rooting macro algae with sand and some open rock structure's with as little rock touching sand as possible. And use high flow thru your refugium or the snacks will never reach your DT on their own. And also the algae doesn't care if it high flow it will still remove nutrient's those who say different just like slow flow thru their fuge nothing else. Lots of light with the algae I ran a 250 watt pendant w/6500k over each fruit ben with harvesting about 1/3 to 1/2 of a five gallon bucket out of each per month/month and a half. I know you will be using LEDs so some trial and error will be needed in this area.
Last we spend $ 1000s on lights, DTs, pumps, skimmers and pennies on a refugium so when spending pennies compared to how much we spend on other equipment do you really think it works...it doesn't FYI:) There is only two way's to tell if your refugium is working and in balance with the rest of your system when used as outlined above. One is the quality and amount of algae harvested each month and the other is...................................
