My SWC 160 cone skimmer pump quit on me last night. I've taken it apart and can't seem to get it working so I guess I need a new pump. :(

Please let me know if you have one to sale and how much you are asking. Also, if it is new or used and how old if it is used.
Thanks!!!

No I bought this one used from Scott. I have a brand NEW CADlights skimmer that will go on the new tank but it won't fit under the stand in my current tank. I hate to have to by any more equipment for this tank cuz I'm gonna be upgrading soon but I need a working skimmer :(

Socal tropical carries them. At least thats where I purchased mine about 4 months ago. They come with the pinwheel impeller rather than the mesh ones but I believe the pinwheels are more reliable.

How many gph is the pump that went out Lindsey? I might have something u can barrow.
Idk but I can find out.... but would it fit? The pump is internal inside the bottom of the skimmer. Idk if you can switch pumps out like that or not.

Interested.... can you text me and Lmk how much and when you can get it by? I'm thinking of heading out that way either this Friday or the following Monday. Hopefully my sps will stay happy without a skimmer until then....

Yes they do have it. Thanks. Does it not matter if the pump has the mesh or pinwheel if it's going in the skimmer? More reliable sounds fantastic as long as it will still work for what I need it to. :)

I really appreciate the offer.... Lmk if you think what you have can work for me. If it would, that would be awesome!

Eric and Mike, again...I really appreciate the offer but after more investigating, it looks like I'm definitely gonna have to get a replacement Atman because of how its mounted inside the skimmer, a different one wouldn't fit properly.
It also might just need a replacement impeller and be good as new again....
But thanks again!!! Good reefing karma for good reefing buddies! :)

Lindsey, from what I have gathered, the mesh impellers generate smaller/more bubbles and supposedly make the skimmer more efficient. However the downside is that the mesh setup is more prone to falling apart after a short period of time. The pinwheels are more durable and seem to do a good job IMO.

Thanks Thresher. I have found the same. Have you used the pinwheel impeller for use on a skimmer? I was told that the skimmer doesn't work nearly as well without the hybrid mesh wheel.

I'm thinking it is just the impeller that's bad because I don't think the inside of the pump looked damaged. I'm gonna take it apart and look at it again when I have a chance. Its times like these when I really miss having the hubby here to help.

When I originally got my SWC160 it had the mesh impeller installed. I noticed it did seem to create more bubbles but this is strictly an observation. I would guess that it may be able to draw in more air compared to the pinwheel. My pump began to act up....basically it would not start back up after I turned it off without giving it a good bump. After buying a new pump with the pinwheel assembly, I am still very happy with the results. The skimmer still works very well and I no longer have to be worried about the condition of the mesh setup. The pump that had given me issues is now a backup.

Cool! I wasn't sure if you were using it for the skimmer or if it was even a different skimmer. Thanks for the clarification!
