Hey everyone, recently decided to take the plunge from freshwater to salt water.

I understand getting an rodi and mixing it myself would be the best, but springing for an rodi unit isn't possible rn for multiple reasons.

Does anyone have recommendation for where to get good quality premixed salt water in OC?

I've called around and some places gives options like red sea or instant ocean, which should I choose? I'm planning to just keep soft corals, torches and mushrooms.

Seaside in HB sells premixed saltwater. I’ve never been to Tongs so I can’t if they sell premixed water. I say pick a salt brand do some research.

I think someone here was selling an rodi unit not that long ago, look around you’ll thank yourself for investing.

I use tropic marine salt for my tank

Thank you for your recommendation. I would love to get an rodi but my living situation doesn't fit/allow it. I'll give seaside a call tmr.

Only trust a store that will let you see the TDS meter....

100% with Jose, Ali would be my first choice. Age of Aquariums would be my second in Signal Hill, although they might be using Fritz now? Mixed reviews on that.

Pending which side of GG you're on one of those shouldn't be too far.

Thank you! Those stores aren't too far, but I don't mind the drive if they are good quality.

Smite is correct...keep in mind TDS works great for RODI.. but who knows what they mix their salt vats with (which may or may not be a concern).. Dont live in the area so no recommendations from me sorry.

Just watched a BRS video about salt mixes. They picked Instant Ocean. Two different mixes from the same company. Reef Crystals and the other was Neo?

Neo-marine? That's by brightwell. I use it and like it. I'm always tempted to just go back to IO for costs. I just wish it mixed at a lower alk. Not a fan of using acid to pull it down.

I’ve bought water form every LFS in SoCal basically and Ali is the only one who I can use straight up, without having to add more of my own salt. Even the reef-centric stores mix their salts to fish-only levels. I think they should mention to people who they know are buying it for their reef tanks that it’s often only 1.022-23
