So, i have 3x Kessil ap500, luv em. bought the A-series mounting arm, sexy. now the wife says the light spill is too much.
so...what options do i have? im not putting these guys behind a canopy. ive seen these plastic 3d printed covers to help with light spill but will these have any effect on the corals or if anyone else has some other options, id like to know.
anyways, have a good one.

Are you running any of their reflectors? Or just using it "open" with the stock 130 degree angle lenses?

Don't mount them higher than 9" and tilt them back a little towards the back of the tank should help. Also, AP700's or a500x? There's a huge difference in mounting height and reflector/lens options.

holy crap i forgot i had this up.

It's the A500 x3 i have them around 9" from the surface and i dont use any narrowing lense. the light spil isnt that bad and the wife hasnt mentioned it since that one time. it was more of a "i wonder what other options i have to hide the spill without hiding the lights"

Swivel mounts allow them to be positioned at an angle, so you could set them forward a bit and angle them towards the back. I had 3 160's on my 22g and they were all angled in a bit. The other option is to mount them higher and use the 55 lens, which may help?

If you bought the A500s new, they should have came with 55 degree reflectors. I would try that, you may even have to raise the light a bit to maximize spread but they help shield the spill a lot.

@drexel The thing is, id have to turn them towards the back to have the lights not spill out on the front. so id have to the light further front to have light turned towards the middle, with the kessil mounts I'm already pretty far out and the light sit in the middle....im typing and i just released what you mean, turn the light a few degrees towards the back to lose the initial glare. hmm, might work. thanks.

@BST310 i do have them, i used one of them on the kessil A360 to narrow the light in the sump so it didn't spill over to the other chambers but even if i didn't use them i probably wouldn't use them anyways. to my knowledge, fleeting at that, narrowing the beams would concentrate the light meaning id have to raise them higher to account for that and that would make the lights easier to see thus glare. possibilities of darker spots where the beams don't intersect, although that shouldn't be a problem with 3 on a 72x24x24 tank but the most important reason why i didn't was the fact that the narrower the light beam the less shimmer you get.

i was always willing to supplement kessils with T5's if it meant if i could have the shimmer. introduction of the a500 meant i could do away with the T5 and keep the shimmer full time.

like i mentioned previously, the wife hasn't said anything since then so im leaving it. i was looking into 3d printed umbrella cones for the lights that slip on kinda hides the source when we walk past or maybe a frosted plexi glass canopy.

either way, thanks for the replies and i hope you guys have a great weekend !!
