Well, it should be 3 to 4 watts of light, however you should take other things in consideration, the depth of your tank, what kind of lights are you going to use PC T5 or MH? and what kind of reef tank do you want. So I would see the "Rules of thumb" as just guide lines to get some good thinking started.

Thanks guys.

I have sort of upgraded.

I now have 75 gallon tank that is 48 by 30 by 18

I am running a 8x54 T5 and have great results.
