From what I know its open season on them. They are really trying to cut them back. I've read that they want local chefs to try and come up with dishes using the lionfish in hopes people will start eating them

I was watching a free diving show one time and they actually said they're good eating. I wonder how many that guy got on that dive. What preys on lionfish? Almost seems like a net would be better when they're in a school like that.
Cool video though.

They have competitions and they have even begun awarding cash for every lionfish killed. They multiply like crazy and just decimate the indigenous fish there.

Crazy to think it all started because a few hobbyists decided to let their lionfish go "free" in the ocean.

Lol, that makes me feel bad. Do they at least use them for something?

some cook them but mainly Florida just wants to kill them all. They have no natural predators here and so they just kill and eat all the fish and reproduce then poop a lot...and it damages the balance of the ecosystem. They are not native fish and were introduced by aquarium hobbyists.

i've been paying divers to take them out for two years now... it's been a growing problem for 6 years or so... but in the last 2, it's been over whelming... huge swarms of lionfish travel from reef to reef until all of the small fish are gone...

i remember reading that they were training some sharks and grouper to eat them...

That's crazy. Looks like man is the natural predator lol. Good thing they're easy to spear.
