I just received some live rotifers, and was reading the directions, and it say that I need to use a 53 micron zooplankton strainer, or a coffee filter to collect the rotifers, and introduce them into my tank. I thought I could just pour the green stuff right into my tank, has anyone did this before?????????:dontknow:

Not sure what you have there.

Live rotifers are usually shipped in some kind of saltwater solution. Did you get algae to feed the rotifers with the rotifers? Where did you buy this from?

It seems like you might have a rotifer starter kit - which would be rotifers and also the algae that they feed on. You can dump the rotifers into a 3-5 gal bucket with saltwater and they will reproduce quickly as you feed them - you will have your own rotifer production factory.

The rotifers are usually harvested out of solution using a 53 micron sieve. If you don't have a sieve, you can use a paper coffee filter but it gets kind of messy.

The rots can then be fed to corals or to larvae.

Hope this helps.

Are you telling me that I cannot pour this bottle in my reef tank?

I would filter it first through a coffee filter and then add it. You can just dunk the coffee filter paper in your tank and the rotifers will float off into your tank.

Hope this helps.

If its a live culture pouring it strait in to your tank won't hurt your live stock or you can filter out the liquid, but i just do pour it strait from the bottle save a little and try to culture it.
