It sounds like a decent idea and their are many ways to run a saltwater tank right if it works it works cool thanks for sharing

Hi Santa Monica, here's my scrubber. Almost 2 months and still brown algae.

I use 2 26watts CFL 6500K.

1st week, I lit it for 12 hours then increase on the next few weeks until it reached 18 hrs.

Btw, i still use gfo, do you think i should shut it down?

The lights are too far away and you are loosing 80% of it. Use one light and get it as close as you can, and go to 22 hours.

U can do water changes but not a must. I've had an ats on my 180 sense setup. At first I didn't do wc's. and the tank thrived. Then recently I started doing regularly wc's and my tank looks like sh**. I'm going back to not doing any water changes.

I could swear I read SM didn't do water changes in 4 years. Can't remember if he said it was his only filtration also. But I think he only has nano tanks.

No, ATS only export nitrates and phosphates. Leaving all other nutrients for corals, inverts, and tank matter.
Now a skimmer on the other hand exports protein. By injecting micro bubbles into the water inside the skimmers body. Protein can b any thing from minerals, nutrients to debris. Skimmers can skim out Potassium, Nitrates, iron, phosphates any thing that can stick to a tiny bubble.

No. I still do tho, only 4 hours a night. To help with ph swings.
