Anyone wanna build one for a price? I am setting up my 180 this weekend and would like to put one in but I am not very good at designing. I can build but no clue where to start fresh... Lol.

Hi Santa Monica, here's my scrubber. Almost 2 months and still brown algae.

I use 2 26watts CFL 6500K.

1st week, I lit it for 12 hours then increase on the next few weeks until it reached 18 hrs.

Btw, i still use gfo, do you think i should shut it down?

This type of filtration is used in addition to the regular WC and current filtration.
U can do water changes but not a must. I've had an ats on my 180 sense setup. At first I didn't do wc's. and the tank thrived. Then recently I started doing regularly wc's and my tank looks like sh**. I'm going back to not doing any water changes.

I could swear I read SM didn't do water changes in 4 years. Can't remember if he said it was his only filtration also. But I think he only has nano tanks.

So if you run one of these it will mess with the necessary nutrients in the tank? This means that dosing is necessary when using these algae scrubbers?

No, ATS only export nitrates and phosphates. Leaving all other nutrients for corals, inverts, and tank matter.
Now a skimmer on the other hand exports protein. By injecting micro bubbles into the water inside the skimmers body. Protein can b any thing from minerals, nutrients to debris. Skimmers can skim out Potassium, Nitrates, iron, phosphates any thing that can stick to a tiny bubble.
