I am traveling back to Los Angeles for the winter holidays for a month and 1/2.
I am planning to buy my fish in Los Angeles but am not sure how to maintain my tank cycled without the bacteria dying.
*Should I keep a raw shrimp in there? which means I will need to do a 100% water change when I get back with fish.
*Or should I just add a fish to maintain it cycled?
Those are the two method I can think of to keep it cycled.
I need help and all advice will help. Thanks guys and gals.

I think what you mean is you want to cycle the tank while you are away correct? If so, I can only speak for me. I've done cycling with damsels and chromi's. If I were in your place, I'd get an auto feeder and let it cycle while you're gone.

I think his tank just cycled, and he's worried the nitrifying bacteria will die off without a source of ammonia.

Edit:

maybe just put a bottle of Dr.Tim's one and only in the fridge for a backup. I love the stuff, and have used it as a quick cycle on my last few setups. Toss it in when you add your fish.
